Welcome
Welcome to the Anjuman-e-Burhanee website and to the Dawoodi Bohra Jamaat of Los Angeles. We are part of an ever-growing and flourishing families of Mumineen, as our beloved Moula Syedna Mohammed Burhanuddin (TUS) addresses us, in the USA and Canada. While our Jamaat or congregation of mumineen has lived here in the vicinity of Los Angeles for many years, we were officially incorporated as "Anjuman-e-Burhanee" approximately .... years ago.

Every Mumin is aware that Syedi Abdulqadir Hakimuddin Mola (r.a.) was a figure of knowledge, taqwa (fear of Allah), religious discipline and dedication to his Da`ii. He was the embodiment of humanity; if anyone wished to see an angel in the guise of a human being then they could see one in Hakimuddin Mola.

Syedi Hakimuddin's everyday life was remarkable; he never once missed any namaaz. Every Jum`ah (Friday) eve he would go into each and every masjid in Mumineen mohallas (areas where they would be living in concentrations) to look into their affairs. He would impose penalties on anyone who was not present in namaaz. He brought to life the traditions of our faith and began many beneficial customs. The custom of Sabeel (a mainstay for the administration of local jamaats) was initiated by Syedi Hakimuddin as was the custom of Qur'an-e-majeed na dorr. (This is where people sit together immediately after fajr namaaz and recite the Qur'an one by one. It takes place in masajid and in many Mumineen homes today and is an ideal way of teaching children how to recite.)

After fajr namaaz, Syedi Hakimuddin would arrive in the masjid for Qur'an studies and give decisions and judgements in matters between Mumineen. His charity and philanthropy was such that he kept with him a bag filled with money and when someone came in need he would take out and give a handful; sometimes even handing over the entire bag.

After nisf-ul-lail (midnight) namaaz, Syedi Hakimuddin would write one complete juz of a kitaab of D`awat (today a juz refers to 16 pages) and in so doing, in his lifetime, he completed two complete libraries of the books of D`awat. One he presented to Syedna Ismail Badruddin (r.a; 38th Da`ii, Jamnagar) and the second he kept for the teaching of his students. Mola Hakimuddin has written marasiyas (eulogies) in Arabic of Du`aat Kiraam and Huduud `Ezaam. In return for his exceptional khidmat and endeavours for the Da`ii and D`awat he received this reward that subsequent Du`aat Kiraam have been from among his descendants including Aqamola (tus).

When Syedi Abdulqadir Hakimuddin passed away his handwritten testament was taken by his son Syedna Ibrahim Wajihuddin (r.a.) and presented to Syedna Ismail Badruddin - the Da`ii of the time. In it was written, "The owner of my entire wealth and possessions is Da`i-ul-zamaan." Syedna Badruddin (r.a.) pronounced that this testament was that of an Ameen (trustworthy) of this world and the hereafter. Then he further said, "O' Hakimuddin, who will safeguard the amaanat now?" (Amaanat = something entrusted).

There are many miracles associated with Syedi Hakimuddin's of which the most well known took place after his wafaat. Rasulallah (s.a.) has said that the body of a 'hafizul Quran' does not decay and this was illustrated vividly in Syedi Hakimuddin Mola's miracle. Syedna Mohammed Burhanuddin Mola, quoting this hadith, emphasizes that if this is the case with a hafiz of the written Quran then what of a hafiz of the living Quran (the Imam and Dai) which was Syedi Hakimuddin Mola?

Syedi Hakimuddin Mola became ill towards the end of Sherullah and as a result was unable to continue the roza. Mola Hakimuddin had intended to leave for Ujjain but did not wish for those who would accompany him to miss any roza and thus remained in Burhanpur. Hakimuddin Mola continued to lead Imamat namaaz, including the Eid celebrations until, on the fourth of Shawwaal, he lead the maghrib namaaz which was to be his last. Mola Hakimuddin passed on on the fifth of Shawwaal and was buried that day. However, a vengeful enemy holding a grudge against Molaya Hakimuddin for a case which had gone against him; reported to the authorities that there were serious malpractices in the burials carried out by Mumineen. Amongst other things he said that the Quran was buried alongwith the body and that salt was scattered upon it. The authorities came to exhume Syedi Hakimuddin's body and at this point a Mumin mukhlis submitted in his heart the dua that Molaya Hakimuddin show a miracle. Either that the hands of those digging freeze up, or that the body vanish or that it be found to be fresh and clean. When the body was revealed it was found that it was still clean and fresh, as if Molaya Hakimuddin were alive. The diggers stood around with dirt in their mouths as they tested for salt and found nothing. The enemies were humiliated.
Had the diggers' hands frozen up then the doubts would have persisted, had Mola's body vanished then the accusation would have been made that Mumineen had removed the body during the night - thus this last dua was the one that was answered.
Mumineen took Mola's jisme at-har (paak body) and covered it in a new kafan (burial shroud) and buried it again. (It is for this reason that the Urs is held on the 27th of Shawwal.)

As with that Mumin mukhlis then, any Mumin remembering Syedi Abdulqadir Hakimuddin with a pure heart today as they ask their prayers ; is always answered.

History relates that in the year 1124H the river Sipra flooded during the monsoons. The river is close to the city of Ujjain and the waters increased until they reached the doorstep of al-Mola Hakimuddin's home. Many houses in the town had collapsed when Mola Hakimuddin came out to his doorstep and did wudhu from the flood waters.

All the people came; looking to him for shelter and appealing to him and Mola Hakimuddin wrote a taaweez and cast it along with a coconut into the waters saying, "Turn back and do not flood again after this."The waters receded back to their original state.

It is related by Abdul Rasul ibne Nuh - a Mumin, mafsuh, devoted - that Syedi Abdulqadir Hakimuddin (qs) was holding a banquet for the wedding of his grandson Syedna Hebatullah Al-Moayyad Fiddeen (r.a.) in the year 1136H. Mumineen living in the city were invited as were those from Ahmedabad.

Syedi Hakimuddin was sat amongst a group of Ahmedabadis as samosas were being prepared when news was brought that Baaqi Daad Khaan had looted a town and brought prisoners back to Ujjain amongst whom were two Mumin men. Upon hearing this Mola Hakimuddin was very aggrieved and tears came to his eyes. He asked if there was anyone who had good relations with the ruler and one Saleh bhai ibne Abdurrahim rose.

Mola Hakimuddin delegated him to negotiate the release of the two Mumineen and he went and did so - a ransom of 50 rupees was agreed. He returned to Mola Hakimuddin with the terms and Mola Hakimuddin accepted but when he went back he found the ruler had gone back on his promise. He had come to know that the two men had a guardian who would give more if more was asked and he demanded 100 rupees.

Saleh bhai returned to Mola Hakimuddin with the new terms which Mola accepted without hesitation saying, "No matter - we will give what he asks." In the meanwhile the ruler was now aware that the guardian was very wealthy and would give whatever he wanted and he again went back on his word and now set a ransom of 200 rupees. Saleh bhai sent this news to Mola Hakimuddin who replied as he had replied before saying, "Do not ask me anything, whatever amount is agreed upon I will give. Bring me the two men immediately!"

They were released upon a ransom of 200 rupees and brought to Mola Hakimuddin and he saw that they were in a dishevelled state. He ordered that they be bathed and instructed his son Dawood bhai to give one of the men some of his clothes as they were the same size and his other son Faydhullah bhai to clothe the other. This they did and then brought the two men to sit before Mola Hakimuddin.

There are many such cases of Mola Hakimuddin's 'fazaail' during his lifetime.

May Alah t`aala preserve Moalaya Hakimuddin's descendent, the true hafizul Quran of our age - Aqa Mohammed Burhanuddin Mola in ever lasting freshness. Ameen.
